Eccentric by Design is a collaborative effort of mixed skill sets whose intent is to bring together a complete service and product line based on the possibilities of the latest in technology.
Combining our knowledge of raw materials, 3D computer design, 3D computerized part manufacturing, unique fabrication processes and environmental considerations, we strive to go far beyond the conventional. In addition, we bring manufacturing back to the local level.
Our direct involvement in all the phases of resource extraction in the Amazon Basin brought us face to face with the fraud and corruption rampant in the global trade system. Our niche was in the challenging "underutilized species", or species that did not respond well to standard stabilization processes and thus were felled and burned on the forest floor.
We developed unconventional techniques for wood stabilization of some of the most difficult tree species. All together these experiences have brought us to the conclusion that localizing both the manufacture and raw material sourcing is of the utmost importance.
We are currently converting to using recycled timbers and "urban timber" - locally felled trees that normally end up in landfills - while our designs are geared to their utilization.
